This New Year definitely started off with a bang. Work has been so hectic. They aren't lying about all the flu cases. Our hospital is pretty full because of all the people who are sick with flu or something related to flu.

My goals for this year:
1) I want to finish my baby records for my cousins -> WIP Princess Birth Record by ariesangel05
2) Finally finish that unicorn cross stitch I've been working on for like a year
3) Maybe find a boyfriend?
4) Keep on keeping on, I was very proud of myself for the last part of last year. I moved out and I'm living the American dream. I can afford my own place and not rely on someone else to help me through. Let's keep that up this year :aww:

I think these are some pretty good goals for this year so far. I hope to have a good year and I hope everyone has a good year too!

So I'm sure pretty much everyone has seen the secrets being posted by DeviantArtSecret, I've even faved a couple because I found I agreed/liked them. I decided to go through their gallery and it was pretty depressing. There are so many of them and most of them are secrets about suicide and love and friendship, mostly not being loved or having friends. I know I have those thoughts of "I'm not good enough", "I'm ugly", "I'm going to be alone for the rest of my life", but it's so different seeing how many people, in all variations feel the same way. I'm not sure if this is some social experiment or how many of these are true, but it's really eye opening and sad. Why are there so many people that feel like this? Why do we have to be so cruel and messed up to each other? There's just not words to describe. :( It's not going to be a physical plague that takes down humanity, it's going to be humanity itself. We're tearing each others hearts out, slowly, little at a time, with our words, our actions, our societal values.

I had the absolute best time at A-Kon this weekend!!! I really only wish I had dressed up :( Even if I had looked goofy as anything it would have made it even more exciting! I did get some some cool cat ears. They make me happy :aww:

What also makes me really happy was seeing a Steampunk Wolverine! I also saw an almost complete Sailor Moon cosplay. They were missing Mercury. I saw one later on but it was way past the picture moment. There was also a minotaur roaming around. I got a picture with him too. He's stabbing me with an axe :( lol!

I was really sad that I couldn't get into some of the panels. I really had wanted to go to the FUNimation panel and the DIY Steampunk panel. They were packed though! I couldn't believe how small the rooms were. At least I did get into Cosplay Show. We waited in line for maybe 2 hours. The show was amazing! I saw Groudon too! That was super cool!

I haven't been up to a whole lot. I've been pretty busy (and pretty defeated) by work the last few weeks. I haven't really worked on anything of substance. I finished the cross stitch portion of my cushion that I was working on, now I just need to actually sew it up but that isn't very high on my list of "Want to Do" at the moment. I just really want to sleep and do nothing. I did start working on a little for fun side project. With the re-release of the Sailor Moon manga I've realized how much I loved that show when I was younger. That I have my own money I'm able to feed into that obsession a little :aww:

I'm also working on a Usagi cross stitch to add to my collection XD

So in all, to much work, need more vacation.

I started going to quilting class this week! I went on Thursday and it was so much fun! I learned a lot about quilting and all the things I should have been doing or were doing completely wrong >.< My lovely half-square triangles I've been working so hard on are apparently completely wrong even though they look pretty good. I was running with the assumption that my pressure (presser?) foot on my machine was 1/4", it's not, it's 3/8". Boo :( I've been using that same measurement for a Patchwork Picnic quilt I've been working on too. I guess for those projects I'll just continue like I have been, that way everything is consistent and then for new projects I'll use my new 1/4" foot :aww:!

At quilting class we use a method called Thangles. Which is where you cut strips of fabric about 3" wide and however long you need and then pin pieces of paper with triangles marked out on them. It's really easy! All you have to do is sew down the dotted line then cut along the dark lines and there you have half-square triangles! When done you just pull the paper off, the sewing creates a perforated line that tears away easily!
Here are some blocks I made at class:

I think it's called a pinwheel. I made a regular and inverse. I love the color of the fabric I'm using! Pink with little white flowers. I also have red with little white flowers that I think will go well with the pink. Each block and inverse I'll use one of the other and then mix them up when I put the final quilt together! My "homework" is a pattern that kind of reminds me of a pinecone or something really pointy.

This is my box of squares for my Picnic quilt! I'm getting there :D

I'm excited to also be trying to participate in the Festival of Half-Square Triangles (link square at bottom)! It sounds like there are going to be a lot of fun projects to try out!
